Back in busy-ness, embroidery how-to

We zijn weer terug van Bonaire. Helaas bijna, want het was geweldig! Heerlijk weer, elke dag verse vis eten, vriendelijke mensen, prachtig gekleurde vogels, vissen, zeeschildpadden, leguanen...ik hou maar op, want ik ben al bijna in mn auto om naar Schiphol te rijden.
We're back from Bonaire. Almost terrible, because it was great! The weather was great, every day fresh fish on the menu, kind people, beautifull coloured birds, fish, seaturtles, iquana's...I will stop now, because I'm almost in my car to drive to Schiphol airport again.

Natuurlijk heb ik ook tijdens mijn vakantie het één en ander gedaan. Niet al te veel gehaakt, want met zulke temperaturen pak ik toch liever een tijdschrift. Maar toch het vermelden waard. Maar eerst iets anders...
Ofcourse I did some creative busy-ness during the holidays. Not too much hookiness, because with these temperatures I rather read. But still worth to show. But first something else...

Mijn moeder is dol op borduren. Al eerder had ik van haar een prachtig engelenhart gekregen. Maar nu had ze een klein rood merklapje voor me gemaakt. Prachtig eenvoudig, precies wat ik mooi vind. Alleen...het moest eigenlijk wel in een lijst. Voor alle creatievelingen een how-to voor het simpel inlijsten van een borduurwerk, met dank aan mijn schoonmoeder, die het concept bedacht.
My mother loves to embroider. She gave me a beautifull heart with angels a few posts before. But now, she made me a cute little sampler. Gorgeous simple, exactly the way I like it. Only...it needs a frame. For all the creative ones a how-to for a simple framing of embroidery work, with thanks to my mother in law who made up this concept.

Allerleerst: zorg voor een borduurwerk en een bijpassend lijstje, zoals ik hier heb uitgekozen Ribba van de Ikea, het borduurwerk past precies in de passe partout.
First search for a nice frame, like here I chose Ribba from Ikea. The embroidery fits in the passe partout.

Pas het zo af dat het borduurwerk goed in de passe partout terecht komt.
Fit it like the embroidery will fill up the passe partout, like this.

Zet het aan één kant vast op de achterkant met wat stukjes plakband. Let op dat je niet te hard aan de stof trekt, want dan trekt het borduurwerk scheef en wordt het niet mooi.
Tape it on the backside with a little cellotape. Don't pull to hard on the fabric, because the embroidery will go aslant.

Plak onder het passe partout dubbelzijdig tape en plak het borduurwerk vast. Als je geen passe partout hebt, plak het dan aan de achterkant vast.
Tape the embroidery to the frame with duplex tape. If you don't have a passe partout, tape it on the backside of the frame.

Aan de voorkant zit het dan vast.
The front will be steady.

Aan de achterkant heb ik het vastgeplakt, zodat het straks netjes aan de muur hangt.
I taped it on the backside, so it will be on the wall decently.

Doe het in de lijst en tadaaa....klaar ben je. Hier op de foto met de tashangers die ik op Bonaire maakte.

Love and happiness

Allereerst (het mag nog nét): de beste wensen voor het nieuwe jaar! Veel liefde en geluk! En natuurlijk ook veel creativiteit!
Bij mij begon het nieuwe jaar gammel met een buikgriep. Niet om erg vrolijk van te worden. Nu zit ik gelukkig weer rechtop achter mijn laptop. Ik wil jullie namelijk iets laten zien...

Met kerst deden wij kadootjes bij mijn ouders en op mijn pakje zat iets heel moois....namelijk dit...

First of all (it's allowed only until today I think); the best whishes for 2011! Lots of love and happiness! And offcourse creativity!
This year started with a bad case of stomach flu unfortunately. Not a very happy start. But now I'm back sitting straight behind my laptop again. And I want to show you something...

With Xmas, we had some presents with my parents and on my present there was something beautiful....this....

Een zelfgeborduurd hartje! Mijn moeder heeft het geborduurd, genaaid en gevuld. Het patroontje is uit het boekje Anges.

It's a selfmade embroidered heart! My mum made the embroidery, sewed and filled it. The pattern is from this book Anges.

Hij hangt nu bij mij te pronken aan de kast.

Beatrix Potter

Vandaag is mijn moeder jarig! Ik had al wat kadootjes voor haar gekocht, maar kon eigenlijk nèt niet dat speciale kado voor haar vinden. In tegenstelling tot haar dochter is mijn moeder gek op borduren. Maar ook naaien. Voor haar verjaardag heeft ze dan ook een nieuwe naaimachine gekregen. Een Hobby van Pfaff.

Today it's my mothers birthday! I've already bought some gifts, but I couldn't find that special one for her. In contrary of her daughter, my mum loves to embroider. And like me to sew. For her birthday she's got a new sewing machine; a Hobby from Pfaff.

Dat is echt een handig apparaat. Het naait zelfs knopen aan!

It's a very useful machine. It even sews buttons!

Ik had een klein naaisetje samengesteld van standaard kleuren garen en spoeltjes voor haar nieuwe naaimachine, maar ik wilde haar ook nog iets voor haar borduur hobby geven. Ik vond in een klein handwerkwinkeltje bij ons in het dorp dit vreselijk leuke boekje met borduurpatroontjes van Beatrix Potter:

I made a little sewing set for her; standard colored sewing yarns and little spindles for her new sewing machine. But I also wanted to give her something for her embroidering. I found a very cute book in a small craft shop in town with embroidery pattern from Beatrix Potter:

Alle patroontjes zijn echt origineel van Beatrix Potter en het borduur resultaat is dus bijna hetzelfde als een plaatje uit een boekje. Briljant! Er staan ook leuke ideetjes in voor kussenslopen, tassen en andere variaties met de patronen. Echt een aanrader! Ze was er heel erg blij mee.

All the patterns are originals from Beatrix Potter, so the result will be almost the same as a picture from her book. Brilliant! There are also nice ideas inside for pillows, bags and other variations to use the patterns for. A nice book to buy! She was very pleased with it.
